Life Lesson 1: S#*t Happens

S#*t Happens

It is a popular albeit coarse phrase in our lives. But “s#*t happens” would not have survived in our everyday vocabulary if there wasn’t some truth to what it means.

Host: Tom Hering

“The test of success is not what you do when you’re on top.
Success is how high you bounce when you hit bottom.”
— George S. Patton

Let’s face it. By the time you’re 50, you’ve experienced some pain, maybe a lot of pain in your life.

You lost a loved one.

Someone betrayed you.

You got a divorce.

You faced major health issues.

You got fired from your job.

Or you went bankrupt.

All of which is your basic “Who’s Who” of s#*t happens. But the truth is, facing those challenges is just part of being a human.

Not a single one of us 38 million boomer males has escaped all of those life humbling hurdles. Not a single one.

And yet you’re still standing and breathing today.

So please, recognize this. Acknowledge it. In fact, revel in it. Accept it as part of the learning process of your life. Which made you a more understanding person in the process. Because whether you want to admit
or not, you have a gained a ton of wisdom thanks to that, ahem, s#*t.

About Author

Tom Hering is a certified Boomer. Just ask him about his love for Shasta grape soda, fritos and VW bugs. By day, he is a copywriter and storyteller (www.heringcreative.com) at his world hq in Portland, OR. Previously, he worked as writer and creative director for respected agencies in Seattle and Portland. Tom is somewhat fanatical about working out (practice what he preaches at boomermale.com), rooting for the Ducks and enjoying the proverbial IPAs of P-town. Hanging out on weekends includes hiking the Columbia River Gorge and cycling (a new addiction) with one of his sons and a few friends.
