Don’t Get Too Far Ahead of Yourself
You heard you’re a finalist for a great job. You read a stock you own is about to jump big time. You get a hot woman’s phone number. Now you’ve jumped too far ahead of yourself.

“It is a mistake to try to look too far ahead.
The chain of destiny can only be grasped one link at a time.”
— Winston Churchill
These were all seemingly “good news” events. Problem is, they all ended up being painful because none of them panned out.
I had the tendency to run the table on these real life scenarios.
For example, I envisioned I got the job, moved up the ladder quickly with a big pay raise to boot, and moved into a high-rent neighborhood on the Seattle waterfront.
The same sort of thing with the stock I owned that ends up going nowhere.
And I saw the woman on my arm hanging on every word I said, then at my company Christmas party, and then living with me.
So when good news greets you, enjoy it. Savor the moment. And treasure it for what it is—not what it could be.
What happens next is anybody’s guess.
Sometimes those illusions of grandeur work out. And sometimes they don’t.
All of which is to say, don’t rush on anything.
When the time is right, it will happen.

They fall into one of three categories: health, wealth and happiness. Each lesson serves to inspire and motivate you.
