Life Lesson 5: Parenting is Not for the Weak

Parenting is Not for the Weak

When you become a father, everything changes.

“Parenting is the easiest thing in the world to have an opinion about,
but the hardest thing in the world to do.”
— Matt Walsh

Host: Tom Hering

Suddenly, your responsibility to be a good provider and a good role model rates right up there with breathing.

Every father reading this clearly understands that. To know that you are accountable to be one of the two most important people to shape a person’s life is a massive undertaking.

In doing so, your strength gets tested.

Your patience gets tested.

And your faith gets tested.

But you’re not just a father.

You’re an advisor.

You’re a cheerleader.

You’re a supporter.

And while my young adult sons now have their own lives and careers, I still have those roles to fill.

As it was with my own father who passed away a few years back at age 90.

Being a father is something that never comes off your life resume.

It’s there until the end. And it is not for the less than strong.

Other demonstrations of how Parenting is Not for the Weak::

  • Deathbed Regrets CAN’T be Fixed: People almost universally said one thing topped their list of regrets more often than anything else.
  • Compromise Is Part Of Life: As a parent, this could be deciding whether your son should finish his homework before TV or finishing his homework as long as it’s done by the time he goes to sleep at night.

In my book 51 Life Lessons Every Boomer Male Should Have Learned by Now, I write about key lessons that I believe every evolved boomer male needs to know to make his third act his best. They fall into one of three categories: health, wealth and happiness. Each lesson serves to inspire and motivate you.

About Author

Tom Hering is a certified Boomer. Just ask him about his love for Shasta grape soda, fritos and VW bugs. By day, he is a copywriter and storyteller (www.heringcreative.com) at his world hq in Portland, OR. Previously, he worked as writer and creative director for respected agencies in Seattle and Portland. Tom is somewhat fanatical about working out (practice what he preaches at boomermale.com), rooting for the Ducks and enjoying the proverbial IPAs of P-town. Hanging out on weekends includes hiking the Columbia River Gorge and cycling (a new addiction) with one of his sons and a few friends.
